Unbesehen (Unseen)

The town hall functions as a symbolic centre of political order, public life, and democratic representation. As a physical and institutional landmark, it stands for stability and collective governance. Yet it is often perceived from a distance — both spatially and socially.

Unbesehen translates this growing distance into a spatial and visual experience. Instead of interacting through a conventional interface, participants engage solely through their position in space. The further they move away from the building, the larger their shadow becomes, gradually covering the façade through projection mapping.

This deliberate interaction turns distance into a visible force. Proximity preserves clarity, while increasing distance produces an expanding shadow that visually dominates the institution. The installation thus becomes a political metaphor for societal alienation and the shifting relationship between citizens and democratic structures.

Rather than addressing politics through explicit imagery, Unbesehen uses light, shadow, and movement to evoke an experiential statement:when distance grows, its impact does not disappear — it becomes more visible.
